The Von Stiehl Winery in Algoma is a well run business by the Schmiling family, a local family that purchased the winery from Dr. Charles Stiehl years ago. First I will address their wine, both reds and whites are very good, and we have, over the past years purchased numerous cases of their wines.

Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery… founded in 1967! The Schmiling brothers that grew up in von Stiehl Winery now own and operate it. The older brother, Aric, utilizes the most modern equipment known to winemaking as he artfully crafts fine wines. The younger brother, Brad, likes romance and history and manages the business.

Where are the tastings held at the winery?
The tastings are held in a barrel aging room in the stone basement of the winery. Our tasting feature 5 red wines that were poured ahead of time into disposable glasses. Each place setting had a nice wine glass, so you could pour the sample into the glass for tasting.
