The mission of tnAchieves is to increase higher education opportunities for Tennessee high school students by providing last-dollar scholarships with mentor guidance. Launched in Knox County in 2008, tnAchieves worked with over 140,000 students since inception. tnAchieves serves students in 85 of 95 Tennessee counties.

How do you qualify for free tuition in Tennessee?
To be eligible, students must have been a state resident for at least a year before applying, maintain a 2.0 GPA, enroll in enough classes to be a part-time student, and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Expanding the free-tuition program will cost about $10 million once fully implemented.
Do you have to pay back TN Promise?
The promise, for new high school graduates, was that they could enroll in a postsecondary associate or certificate program without paying for tuition out of pocket. Any balance not covered by federal or state grants would be billed to a new state endowment fund.
