The Mercury Marine OptiMax 150 is the middle of three direct fuel-injection two-stroke outboards from 135 to 175hp, all of which use the same 60° V6 powerhead. The 2.5lt loop-charged powerhead has been around a long, long time and in my opinion is one of the best Mercury engines.

How does the Mercury compare to the Yamaha Optimax?
The Mercury is a 3 cylinder. The Yamaha was a 4… . The Optimax consistently delivers incredible fuel efficiency, but it definitely does not have the torque the Yamaha had. I attribute that to the extra cylinder. Still, watching my speed the Mercury will get me between 6 to 7 NMPG cruising at 19 knots with a light load.
