How does transmute work in MTG?
Transmute works by allowing a player to pay the transmute cost of a given card, discarding the card, then searching their library for a card with the same converted mana cost as the discarded card.
Is transmute instant speed?
No, Alchemist’s Refuge and other such “cast sorceries as though they had flash” cards won’t let you activate abilities that have the sorcery-speed restriction at instant speed. For starters, effects like Alchemist’s Refuge only affect spells, and transmute is an ability.

Why is Channel banned MTG?
That isn’t the reason Channel is banned. The reason it is banned is due to its combo potential with cards like Fireball, which become more powerful for every point of mana you put into them.
