Does uverse use phone lines?
U-Verse is AT’s brand name for high-speed internet service. Old AT packages used a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) to supply homes with a decent internet speed (a DSL line is basically your phone line). Now, AT delivers internet through fiber only, with phone lines separate.
Does uverse use phone line or coax?
U-verse can use a variety of cables to get the job done. It can use telephone wiring, a dedicated Cat 5 run, or coax to feed the signal inside the home from the NID on the back of the house. It can use either coax or twisted pair to deliver signals from the RG to the set top boxes.
Does AT install phone jacks?

Does AT use coaxial cables?
AT at one time would use coax if that was the best available connection from the NID to the Gateway. They’ve not done that in years. Even then, it was twisted pair to the home which got converted to coax. At this point, you either get Fiber or twisted pair, depending on your service.
Do you have to have a phone jack for AT internet?
AT Internet does require an Ethernet jack in your wall. This will be how your Gateway connects to our network, which will then let you connect to the internet through Wi-Fi. If you don’t have an active wall jack or need a new one installed, one of our technicians can install them for you.

Where can I find the packing slip for my wireless gateway?
The packing slip can be found in a plastic sleeve located on the outside of the shipping box. Locate your Wireless Gateway: 1. Go outside and find your phone box.* 2. Open the phone box by removing the screw with a flathead screwdriver. 3. Unplug the phone cord in the outside box (as indicated in diagram 3). 4. Close the box and screw it.
